[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
Hey, everyone. Welcome to Jonathan's Leftovers. This is a little extra serving of the Jonathan Project podcast. Me and Jason have figured out after four long seasons of doing this, there's so much that we want to share with you and spend a little extra time with you. You know that it's like Thanksgiving dinner. You come back and get extra helping of the good stuff. And that's what we're doing here on Jonathan's Leftover. So, yeah, we're just gonna talk to the people about what we couldn't talk about on the main show, which. The main show for. If you're just jumping in with Jonathan's Leftovers this week, the main show for the week was Is God done with us? Well, there was a lot that we couldn't say within our allotted time. So, Jason, what are you thinking as far as that extra help?
[00:00:56] Speaker B: No, what we do for everybody that's out there, and we said it is. We continue to talk, and we're like, oh, I should have said this, I should have said that. So it gets down to it. And, you know, when we talk about is God done with us? One of the things. So in that devotional that we just wrote, there's the story of the. The one and one out of the 100 sheep, right. And I really dug into that when. When I was writing it. And if you have a hundred sheep, you got a hundred sheep. Like, you got a lot. And think of it like this. I mean, you did you. In the Middle east. If you got 100 sheep, that's a lot.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: Well, you're doing all right for yourself. Yeah.
[00:01:35] Speaker B: Yeah. And even now, if you got 100 cheap, that's a lot. Like, I got 10 chickens. That's a lot. I don't need a hundred. But let me ask you something. If you had 100 pennies and you lost one, would you go look for that one penny? Probably not.
[00:01:47] Speaker A: That's probably not gonna happen.
[00:01:48] Speaker B: No, because you're. Especially if it's, like, wandered way off. Like, if it, you know, you dropped it in the yard and you're like, well, that's just lost.
[00:01:56] Speaker A: That's it.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: If you had a hundred dollars, would you. And $1 goes out the window, would you pull the car over? Probably not, but. But Jesus flat out says, just like the shepherd with a hundred sheep, he leaves that 100. I thought about that. Now the sheep wanders off. Like, it wanders off of its own free will, and he leaves them.
[00:02:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: And I'm thinking, man, like, that's vulnerable to robbers, to pray and all this other stuff and all this, and it doesn't make any sense to me. And then it dawned on me. Yeah, it's not supposed to make sense because the foolish, the cross to the lost is foolishness. And what Jesus is telling you goes, hey, man, I love you individually and unconditionally. Yeah, right. That's what that story is about. It's not supposed to make sense. It doesn't make sense that a savior comes down and dies on the cross for us. For me, while I was still the antagonist, I could have just as easily been the dude that was sitting there hammering the nails. He's like, yeah, I'm gonna do it for you too.
[00:03:01] Speaker A: And that is mind blowing, Jason. And it just goes to this point that he's not done with this, but it goes to this thing. And the thought that I had and couldn't get to on the main show is, you know, we need to leave the past behind. And that is such a big struggle for so many of us when it comes to this whole concept that we wrestle with sometime, especially as believers, like, oh, God is. I've hit a season where I think he's done with me. Well, you need to leave behind past guilt, you know, because holding on to that guilt, that is a hindrance to your relationship with God. It has nothing to do with him leaving, but everything about your feelings. You know, First John 1:9 says, Confess and God forgive. And there's a period, there's a period after that God doesn't berate, he doesn't nag, he doesn't say, well, you remember what you did in, you know, 1993 on this? No. Yeah, it's over. But what we do and what we allow to do is we live in the past. Satan replays this, this old, old video for us, and we go through all these emotions and changes. The other thing is past glory. On the other end of the spectrum, man, I went out and I fed these families. I did this. It turns into these I things. I did this, all this past glory for you. And you think, right, as my good buddy here says, and I tell people this all the time, you're either evolving or you're evolving, either growing or you're regretting. You're not static as people. You're not. That's not how nature is. It's not how we as people. And therefore, you can't live on that past glory. You gotta let it go. Every day is new and continue to move forward.
[00:04:31] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I. I love the we. We bring it up, right? Like what's your past? So the Bible says, he cast your sins as far as the east is from the west.
Now, this is what's unique.
All those years ago, we know now there are north and south poles. You can go south by going north once you cross that pole.
[00:04:55] Speaker A: It's a technique.
[00:04:56] Speaker B: Right there. It's a technique, right. It just takes longer. But you can. But you can never go east and go west.
No, no, no, you can. It's not.
Now you can get to a western spot, but you never can to compass, never swap and go, oh, I'm going west.
[00:05:16] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:05:16] Speaker B: Right. But if you continue to follow that compass north to a point across the pole.
[00:05:22] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:05:23] Speaker B: You're walking south.
[00:05:24] Speaker A: You started walking south. Yeah, yeah.
[00:05:26] Speaker B: It just flips. So it's. It's as far as the east is from the west, not as far as the north is from the south. Because those two meet, right? And I love that because that's just that little bit of science that, you know, all those years ago, and they didn't know back then. Ain't nobody been to the North Pole back then.
[00:05:44] Speaker A: I don't.
[00:05:46] Speaker B: But you're right. And he's never done with us. He wasn't done with the Assyrians. He sent Jonah there, and they were some bad people.
[00:05:54] Speaker A: Right. Talk about. Talk about thinking God is done with you. Go read the story of Jonah. And oh, oh, Jonah. That's a whole episode itself. That dude, man, God just killed me. Like, wow, Jonah, really, You're so dramatic.
[00:06:08] Speaker B: Yes. And when people say, well, I'm. I'm at peace with it. Let me tell you something. Jonah was at peace in the bottom of the boat, going to sleep when he was running. Right.
[00:06:16] Speaker A: You see how that worked out? Yeah.
[00:06:19] Speaker B: So now I agree with you. You know, Jesus is never done with us.
[00:06:24] Speaker A: No.
[00:06:25] Speaker B: There's the old joke I heard John Kierson say. He goes, hey, this. This one guy, this one pastor, he was getting raised very. He was very.
Long story short, there was someone else coming who was very much. Claim to be very much in tune with God. His pastor goes up to him. He's kind of leery, doesn't like this guy a whole lot. But he says, well, if you and God talk so much and you're so close, then you'll tell me the one sin that I did when I was back in seminary. And the guy goes, all right, let me think about. Let me. Let me go home. Me and God are gonna talk. So he goes back, next day, the pastor comes up, and he's just angrily approaching him. And he says, well, what was it? He says, well, I don't know. And God said he didn't know either because he'd forgot. But that's. That's the way it is, right? He's not.
He's never done with us.
[00:07:18] Speaker A: He's not. And I think, you know, as. As we think about this, you know, practically. Right. Like so, yeah, I get it. Jason, Kobe, you guys say God is not done with me, but how do I recoup that feeling that he's not? Right? Well, you're battling with lies over truth. And you have to understand that some of the common things from the enemy is you've sinned too much. Look what you did. God's not going to forgive you. God has given up on you. You'll never measure up. But the truth over that lie is Romans 8. 1. There's no commendation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Luke 19:10. Jesus came to seek and save the Lost in James 4. 8. Draw near to God, he'll draw near to you. When Satan accuses, remind yourself of God's promises. Very practical. Well, what does that translate to? Every day, read your Bible. It doesn't have to be a lot. Let me hear you say, there's no formula. But what you're going to do and you start developing the habit is arming yourself for the fight that you don't even realize that you're in every day. And then you'll be able to pull out that word, that defense, that sword, when Satan starts lying. The other thing is, right, you need to have a prayer life. You need to foster relationship. Like Jason just gave an example with that pastor, to go to God and say, well, Lord, this. This is what I'm having to cry out. He wants you to have an honest conversation. Now, again, at the end of that conversation, it's going to be what he wants, but you can have it and you can find that peace. And then lastly, it goes back to last week's episode. When you have something go down in your life, situations which are going to happen, trials, tribulations. You get punched in the face and you feel like, hey, God has done with me who is influencing you to see the world the way it is and what God has called you and who he is. There's so much that's out there nowadays, and those voices might not be grounded in the truth. And the truth is a person called Jesus Christ. So ask yourself those practical steps when you're going through something, and that can help you make that fresh start that I talked about. And refocusing Hebrews 12 and 2 on putting your eyes on Jesus and not on what the world your problems says.
[00:09:24] Speaker B: Okay, yeah, no, I agree with you. You know, there's plenty of stuff to be thankful for. It really is in all circumstances and even when there isn't stuff to be thankful for in that, then there's always thankfulness for the salvation. Right?
[00:09:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:41] Speaker B: So no, I really do appreciate it was a great episode, you know, as we do. The leftovers were at 10 minutes, so.
[00:09:48] Speaker A: That's right. You know what? You don't want someone to get too stuffed, so. Nope.
