Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Hey. Welcome, everyone, to another episode of the Jonathan Project podcast. Our purpose here is simple. We're trying to help motivate men to navigate those complexities of the world around them, to be iron, sharpening iron, and become the men that God wants them to be. And we take the biblical example of Jonathan and his friendship with David and his future king as our show's inspiration. If you want to reach out to me, Jason, for coming out, for speaking engagements, talking to businesses, churches, schools, groups of men, women, please reach out to us at the Jonathan Project. Podcastmail.com Again, thejonathanprojectpodcastmail.com Welcome to the season three intro. So what's going to be new right out of the gate? Well, we're doing video. We finally have jumped up a level and we're going to be putting this out on various video platforms. So if you're already subscribed to a video podcast platform, you should be able to find that hopefully all goes well, we're going to navigate those complexities. But, Jason, welcome to the season three intro. I'm so excited to talk about what we're going to talk about in season three when it comes out on Tuesday. So welcome.
[00:01:12] Speaker B: Yeah, hey, thanks for being here or thanks for letting me be here. And we're going to talk about what we're going to talk about. You remind me of my old buddy used to go, you know, prepare to prepare, prepare and prepare. There, there's where we are, how you.
[00:01:27] Speaker A: Feel, you know, it's.
It's life, man. It's ups and downs. It's a roller coaster. I don't know if anybody ever has experienced that, but I think that's what life is. It's just this weird, funky roller coaster. So no complaints. All first world problems right now. So. Yeah.
[00:01:45] Speaker B: Yeah, well, it's good. I just finished building the chicken coop outside.
[00:01:49] Speaker A: You know, that was.
I don't, you know, obviously the audience doesn't know, but I live it with you every day as we talk.
You know, Rome salutes you for doing the chicken coop because I would have killed them and ate them for Sunday dinner. But that's just.
[00:02:03] Speaker B: There was some temptation there to get rid of all of them. As you know, we did have the one chicken that decided to go, hey, it decided to crow one morning. And what I interpreted that was it said, hey, I want to be a Green Beret. And I said, well, I think that's awesome. We're going to start out with a land now, of course. So it had, yeah, he had, he had the star.
He didn't pass. He hasn't been back, so. No go on that one.
Yeah. I've got another one out there that is deciding be a real boy, too. But it's very quiet, so we'll see how that goes.
[00:02:43] Speaker A: How'd you enjoy that extra hour of sleep? Because it always makes me joyous. But then I get mad because I can't have that all the time. And I'm baffled at 2024 that in the US where I can speak to my phone and then my car turns on the radio. I can do all these things, but we keep flipping and flopping time. I just. It is. It is crazy.
[00:03:08] Speaker B: You know, my truck doesn't do that. You know, like, you turn it on, the radio is there. You can't. If you talk to it, nothing happens.
[00:03:15] Speaker A: It's a blessing, trust me, because having a car that's like, basically a computer, it fights me at any given moment.
[00:03:21] Speaker B: But it was glorious this morning as I jumped up early and I realized there was a disconnect between my clock and what was on my phone. By the way, you know, I love antiques. I have literally a 1990s clock radio that I wake up to.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: You're an old soul. As my grandparents were saying, hey, it's.
[00:03:46] Speaker B: Set to an old gospel station. And so I get to hear that in the mornings. It kind of gets me. Right. I love it.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: You missed your time. Like, I think that's one of the things that me and you talk about when we get to heaven and go through onboarding and orientation.
I think you missed your century.
You were really set up for, like, I don't know, the 17th or you would have been a warlord. I think you would have been one of those guys in history, was like, man, this guy was Jason the Great.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: But, you know, they didn't have antibiotics back then.
[00:04:18] Speaker A: They didn't have a lot.
[00:04:20] Speaker B: They didn't have a lot then have a lot.
What they did have killed a lot of people.
[00:04:25] Speaker A: That was always a skill. Turning out the frame was a skill. But for another day, another episode, let's.
[00:04:32] Speaker B: Let's talk about. What do you want to talk about this week?
[00:04:35] Speaker A: What do we want to talk about on season three? So if you listen and this is kind of how the podcast goes. This is me and Jason. We just have fun and we talk about the Lord. I will tell you, one of the things that I'm excited to talk about right out of the gate is the role of the church, right, in our. In our modern society. Right? Like, we know that there's been a Little bit of decline, to say the least. We also see the impacts of the church not being the church, quite honestly, and being very politicalized and all these other things that we're going to talk about about the church and what that really causes hurt and harm. What do you think about the role of the church?
[00:05:12] Speaker B: Where we are, where we're not, where we should be. I like that. I think that'd be great topic.
I also want to talk about hard conversations simply because we have kids. Right. And you have to cross those bridges.
[00:05:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:30] Speaker B: And if you are a Christian man and, you know, you need to lean on your brothers and go, hey, have you crossed this bridge before? From everything, from, you know, friends in people's lives, what that really means, boyfriends, girlfriends, iPhone, you know, what do you do when you have to correct your children? So kind of talking about hard conversations, how to have them. What does the Bible say and what does. What examples have there been?
[00:05:57] Speaker A: You know, I love it. Another one that I, we talked about several times and want to dip our toes into is the signs of the times. Right. What does that mean, the Christian perspective, perspective on how this thing called time. Because a lot of people believe, oh, how does the world gonna end? Well, I got good news for you out there. It doesn't end.
[00:06:20] Speaker B: But you don't get daylight savings time when it's over. Right. Like, you don't get to go, oh, I got another hour to make that decision.
[00:06:28] Speaker A: But this thing called time, right. Is going to come to a conclusion. And just like you can tell that it's fall in a lot of places besides here in lovely Florida, where I live, where it's just perpetual endless summer, which is always not great from, from the Bible's perspective. We can also tell the season, spiritual season. So we're going to talk about that a little bit, a few books on that, and we'll kind of talk about that, I think in season three at some point.
[00:06:57] Speaker B: So keeping in context with time, I want to talk about spending time. Spending time. Why time is your number one commodity, both with your family, with the Lord and with your friends.
Right. And how that, you know, it's. Everybody says, oh, man, it's already about to be Thanksgiving. Where did the year go?
Pretty. It's fast. It gets faster. So we'll talk a little bit about that. I think that's important, right?
[00:07:31] Speaker A: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. It is. One other thing that we had kind of thrown around here for all the men and women out there listening is the legacy that you leave impacting those future generations. So Again, another topic and episode in this upcoming season where we're going to kind of talk about the family, how to influence those future generations through mentorship, family values, community involvement.
I think that's a big thing. That's the thing for me and Jason that's really big is making sure that you're leaving a legacy that's worth following and is really Kingdom focused.
[00:08:04] Speaker B: No, I think that's really good because, you know, when you look at your family and things like that, and that's actually one of the ones I had was your family's, your team. But that's also goes into that legacy like you talked about, right?
[00:08:19] Speaker A: Yeah. Maybe we'll have a couple men or other guests on during that time that are making those impacts in the community or in their family. So I think that'll probably be a good episode for guests. We try to get a couple guests on for anybody that's new out there listening every season. And so I think this might be one of those ones where we're trying to try to find someone to come on and have a good time with us.
[00:08:42] Speaker B: Yeah, I'd like.
[00:08:43] Speaker A: What else you got, Jason? I think, well, eight or nine episodes there at least.
[00:08:48] Speaker B: Well, we'll wind on down. You know, a plan is really just a good list of things that may not happen, so it may change.
I was going to go with keeping priority, which is I'm a big fan of the four Fs. Your faith, your family, your friends, and then just kind of call it the force. Everybody you're responsible for.
So not the four Fs, like probably what I had on a report card at some point in my life, but that's it. About your priority as a Christian male, what's your priority? What does God look at you and go, hey, these are the things I want you to be accountable for.
[00:09:28] Speaker A: All right, that's all good. And then one thing I really wanted to talk about was leadership. And leadership really tied to being in integrity right there. There's a deficit across the board, I believe. And we've talked about this. When we look at leadership, it often goes to something very superficial versus what, you know, qualities that really align with Kingdom values, which then pulls you up into this realm of having integrity.
And that's in both secular or religious context. Right. We want to make sure that we're doing that. So we want to kind of spend some time with some purpose driven leaders, leadership kind of discussions.
[00:10:09] Speaker B: You know, that's. That's interesting you say that, you know, there was a couple of years ago There was this huge thing about CEOs and how ethical they were and how it was destroying business. Right. They even had that ethical. Some of the sit ins at Wall Street a couple of years back. So that'd be good. What does God say about that? As far as ethical leaders go, I think that's an excellent one. I think I've got a couple in here that kind of help that tied into some of that.
[00:10:38] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:10:40] Speaker B: But I also wanted to talk about work life balance. You know, guys, as guys, we become workaholics very easily.
[00:10:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:50] Speaker B: Or at least I think we do. But then I look around and there's some super lazy humans on the planet. Right?
[00:10:56] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. There's some that are just sucking down oxygen, watching paint dry. That's for sure.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: Oh, man, that is.
But that's also part of that as a leader. You know, when you talk about it, that whole work life balance thing, how do you. How do you do that? Yeah, I had a couple of more.
[00:11:18] Speaker A: Yeah, go ahead. Because I'm out of Schlitz. I'll be honest. We were doing this. I told you. It was like one in the morning. And I was like, yeah, I'm tapping up.
[00:11:27] Speaker B: Well, I want to talk about maybe this time of how do you help others deal with stress? Like, God puts you in a place. Right. And I thought about Job's friends, you know, the three guys that show up, and they're not. They're not so good at helping him deal with his stress.
So how do you really do it? Right.
[00:11:52] Speaker A: That's a good one.
[00:11:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:53] Speaker A: So there's another tie into the job that we talked about. But I dare not bring it up. But, you know, I'll just say this. Like, Joe Job had a lot going on, like, from his friend, his inner circle. Inner circle was poisonous to say the least. But.
[00:12:11] Speaker B: Yeah, be careful. Be careful.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just gonna let it. I'll let that hang there for there.
[00:12:15] Speaker B: But yeah, that. You got to be careful about that one.
You know, I had another but about the ministry. But that also goes into.
It's a little different than the legacy you leave, but, like, where God called you as an ambassador, wherever you're at work, wherever you are, that's where your job. That's where your duty is. Right.
[00:12:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:39] Speaker B: And so maybe we can kind of weave that one in with some of the others.
I also wanted to talk a little about how do you reward those that we love? Right. Like, how do you reward.
I crossed a bridge not long ago where they were giving out awards from our Last deployment. And truth was there was people who did way more work than the piece of paper captured. Right.
[00:13:06] Speaker A: Yeah. I love it. Yeah.
[00:13:08] Speaker B: So I took, I took some time and I made some phone calls and I wanted to express to them, you know, really did thank them for the time they put in and all the hard work.
[00:13:19] Speaker A: Right, sure.
No, I love that, I love that episode idea because, you know, our heavenly father, the Bible talks about, Paul talks about, he's like athletics as a context. He's like, we're running a race, right?
[00:13:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:31] Speaker A: And there's the victor's crown there. And then the Bible goes on and talks about at least a couple different awards that we're up for and the. One of the greatest scenes in the Bible. So we'll most definitely want to explore this as we do. That one is the greatest award show that will ever happen. Will make the Emmys, the Oscars look like a fourth grade theater play.
Will be in heaven where we all give our crowns to Jesus and he rewards us publicly for the work that you did. So I'm looking forward to that award show.
[00:14:03] Speaker B: No, I, I love that. So. All right, the last one is lost Skills. And that may be something we weave throughout, like, as, as Christian men, as just Christians in general. Just good people. There's a lot of lost skills out there, like listening, asking questions, handwritten letters. You know, talk about old soul here. Handwritten letters. Just simple.
[00:14:32] Speaker A: Who does that? I mean, let's just be honest. You should.
[00:14:34] Speaker B: Do you.
[00:14:34] Speaker A: Do you do that? Do you still write letters?
[00:14:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: Oh my gosh, man, you missed your century. Holy. Mr. Century.
[00:14:41] Speaker B: What's that?
[00:14:42] Speaker A: I can't do it. I said you, Mr. Century. You really should have been a warlord back in like the 1500s or something.
[00:14:48] Speaker B: I also have a fountain and it. No, but you, you do like those lost things. Think about that. Handwritten letters, those are important.
When I deployed, every time I could, I would write a hand written letter and to my kids. Right. They still have them and.
[00:15:12] Speaker A: Wow, that's good. I salute you on that. Yeah. I write thank you notes now. I will do that. I will say I'm kind of old school that way. Handwritten thank you notes.
I think that's just a classy touch. But that's where it stops. That, that's it. Other than that, it's gonna be an email, phone call or text.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: Yeah, emails. You know, my grandmother was probably the best at writing letters. And they would just, you know, when I was in basic training and all this other stuff, she would write a letter and it would be, oh, this is what the weather is. This is what the preacher had to say today. I'm gonna have this for dinner. And it was really nice. And.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: Yeah, and those are all phone calls now, or text.
[00:15:54] Speaker B: Or text. Yeah. And if you have a younger child, you. They. They text with, like, little letters, like, idk and all this.
[00:16:06] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:16:07] Speaker B: I. I have no idea.
[00:16:09] Speaker A: So I. I'll help you out sometime. Put it. I'll put a list for you together.
[00:16:13] Speaker B: Tells me, because I put in all the punctuations and everything in that text.
[00:16:18] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:16:20] Speaker B: It is what it is.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: It is what it is. I am as God made, and we love you for it. Well, I'm excited. Right? That is our little preview, everyone out there for season three.
