When A Blind Man Taught Others to See

Episode 2 June 24, 2025 00:28:42

Show Notes

What’s holding you back from sharing your faith? Is it the fear that you don’t know enough Scripture? Consider the blind man Jesus healed—he didn’t know theology or have verses memorized. In fact, he had been blind from birth. But when he was questioned, he simply said, “All I know is that I was blind, but now I see.” That was his testimony—and it was enough. When Jesus saved you, He gave you a story worth sharing. Your testimony is powerful. It's not about knowing everything—it's about sharing what He’s done in your life.

[00:01:13] Speaker A: Go ahead for all the visual folks. You're not seeing double. This is not some trick. We are recording two episodes and sending them to you. So it's not that we wore the same clothes for three weeks in a row. I just found that funny all when I noticed it. But yeah, it's good to see you yet again. [00:01:29] Speaker B: Well, it's good to see you. You know, 10 minutes after we finish the last one, it's because I'm gone. And I appreciate this more than you know. [00:01:36] Speaker A: Right. So please pray for Jason when you hear this. Jason will be doing good stuff for. For good usa. So make sure you pray for him and his family as he has to travel a little bit. But he'll be back with us here soon. [00:01:49] Speaker B: So going well. Let's jump into this topic. [00:01:52] Speaker A: Let's do it. [00:01:53] Speaker B: All right, so we're for everybody who's doing their Bible study and want to do it with us. We're talking about John Knight and being a guy who has some medical background quite a bit. This man is healed. He's been blind since birth. Right. And I love this. And because they saw this guy and the disciples asked him, they go, hey, who sinned like his parents? Or did this guy? Which is kind of different, you know, I mean, he was born blind, so how did he. Well, I mean, maybe God's like, hey, I know what you're going to do. In the future. Maybe that was their thought. But like, hey, he's born blind. [00:02:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:30] Speaker B: Jesus comes up and he's like, neither. [00:02:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:32] Speaker B: None of them. Yeah, this is for my glory. And, you know, sometimes problems happen. Well. And so there he is, and he tells the guy right here and he goes to healing and it says that he spit and made a little clay right on the ground. Made a little clay. That's interesting because it's a creation, not a correction. Miracle. Creation. [00:02:52] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:53] Speaker B: So he sits on the clay and he puts it in his eyes and he gets his go wash. That's kind of. We were made right from the clay. He says, go wash. And it's like, go wash in the pool of siloam. And then these people see, hey, there's no mistake. Johnny, who had been blind and begging his whole life. [00:03:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:03:10] Speaker B: Now can see. [00:03:11] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:03:12] Speaker B: And the Pharisees show up and they're mad, right? They're mad. And they start questioning his parents and they're afraid they're going to be kicked out of the church. And so they're like, why don't you go ask him? He's an adult. Let him answer. And I love this. So they get in there to question. [00:03:28] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:03:29] Speaker B: And this is where it kind of goes. And we'll get to the point of it. But the guy says in verse 25, he answered and said whether he'd be a sinner or not. Man, I don't know about that. He says, but one thing I know, I was blind and now I see. [00:03:42] Speaker A: I love it. [00:03:43] Speaker B: That's it. [00:03:44] Speaker A: Powerful, powerful statement, right? [00:03:46] Speaker B: Yeah. He testified to what he knew. And, you know, as Christians, sometimes we want to witness. And what does Satan do? He puts it in the other person to go, hey, can you explain astrophysicists and how time actually began and dinosaurs and answer. If Adam had a belly button. You're like, a lot. [00:04:08] Speaker A: It's a lot slick. [00:04:09] Speaker B: And I think it puts people off, you know. [00:04:13] Speaker A: And I love it. I love. When you brought up this topic, I was like, man, this is a powerful thing because, you know, I'm going to ask you a rhetorical question. Have you ever spent some time, and this is for the audience, too, questioning what has happened? Instead of praising God, he got you through it, right? [00:04:27] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:28] Speaker A: You see this time and time again in the Bible, right? And this is a great example. The Pharisees missed a powerful example yet again. The one group of people who were charged to understand who Jesus was, they knew the Bible back forth in the Bible at the time. And what I Mean by the Bible, the Torah, right? The written word of God. They knew what to look for. And this is one of the things. Hey, been key moment here. Alarms, bells, lights, bands should be playing. They missed the miracle. But how many times have we done that, man? Woe is me. I didn't get this job. But you have a job, right? Or a man. Like, this thing happened to me, you know, I was late. I had a flat tire. Right? But you had a car. You have a way to get to work. Because me and you both and a lot of people that listen to us, I've seen people, the only thing they got is the two feet they got. And sometimes they didn't have those two feet to get where they were going. So it is a powerful lesson. It's an amazing story of how you can be blind and now we can see but not trust Jesus. And you end up debating it, right? And you don't want to be in that situation. We don't want to be the Pharisees. You got to trust him. So, you know, let's dive into it. Keep going, man. I love it. [00:05:38] Speaker B: So I love this because they're. They're all confused. Pharisees are all confused. And they're like, what do you mean? What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes? And the blind guy, the only thing he knows, because they don't have Braille back, right? He ain't reading Scripture. So for people who feel like, well, I don't know enough about the Bible to witness. No, hoss, you're instantly an ambassador. You're instantly in the fight, and God is putting you places to witness. And what are you going to talk about? You're going to talk about this? Because I love the guy's response. He goes. And he answered them, says, I've told you already. And you didn't hear. You want to hear it again? You know, you want to be one of his disciples. Okay. You know, and then they got mad at him, and all he keeps saying is, is, I was blind. I can see. [00:06:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:06:30] Speaker B: This is a personal thing. [00:06:31] Speaker A: It is super personal, but it's also super good and deep, Jason. And here's why. It's amazing. Like, and it gets me excited because the disciples, I love the disciples because I see myself in them. And there's ones especially, like Peter, I resonate deeply with. Now, the disciples immediately started trying to debate the call, who, who sinned? Right? To tie back for a sec. Who? Who sinned? The man, the parents, what's going on here? Right? But Jesus Shuts him down. He was like, hey, this happened for my glory, as you said. But here's the, here's the kicker. He came back seeing Jason, not just physically, but spiritually. Yeah, that is amazing. Right? He is testifying. He instantly became what, a disciple. He keeps telling people like, hey, man, I don't know how it happened. I don't know about all this stuff you're asking me. And again, how many times have you seen someone like that? Hey, well, you were over here, you were doing drugs, you were selling drugs. You're this bad person. But now I hear you talking about this Jesus thing, man, I don't know what happened. I know I met him and my life is transformed. And let me just share that with you. You can debate, you can judge me, right? Which is what a lot was happening in this story. Or the parents saying they question the parent. What kind of parents you are, you liars. You can spend your time doing that in life and looking at things, or you can see what Jesus is doing and where he's trying to take you. The man came back seeing folks that. That is amazing. Not just physically, but spiritually. Go ahead. [00:07:52] Speaker B: Yeah, no, he saw from birth. And that's what he testified to, I think. Just like. And you know, we always say, well, God saved me from some great tragedy. The great tragedy was that you were going to die in your sins. At the end of the day, every man knows that he's done wrong. It's written in our hearts. Right. In every single culture. Murder is wrong. Right. All of them. Stealing is wrong. Right. We know these things. It's written in our heart. And we know at the end of the day we're going to pay a toll. And there was a. There's a great psychologist that made the statement. He said, if I could get everybody to understand there's forgiveness, we could empty out a whole bunch of problems. Just. In fact, there's forgiveness. You don't have to be a great biblical scholar, you know, hands down. I'll tell you right now, I've read the Bible, I don't know, cover to cover, more than once, you know, a couple of times. But at the end of the day, there's things I forget. But the baseline testimony is what Jesus did in my life. And he calls people to do that. Think about the guy, the. When he crossed the water and it was legion, right? [00:08:58] Speaker A: Yeah, he went to the other side and then they went to the little village. But yeah, they ran into the man that was with a full of a legion of demons, which is Quite a bit, yeah. [00:09:08] Speaker B: And I had that one of my notes right here. But when he talks about it, right, and he says, and the guy at the end, now, they had locked this guy up. He was a problem and everybody knew it because he kept tearing them apart. And he goes, hey, I want to go with you. I want to go with you because I have been chastised by these people. They've locked me up because I'm a demon. I've got all these demons in me. He says, I want to go with you. And what does he say to him? He says, by the way, it's in Mark 5. I found it in my old notes, Mark 5. But he says, no, I want you to stay here and I want you to witness. That's a powerful testimony. That's where God calls us. I think as Christians, sometimes we get caught in debates. I did. I've got something written in the beginning of my Bible. Talks about three books that are always contested. One is Genesis, the creation. [00:09:56] Speaker A: Yes, sir. [00:09:57] Speaker B: Satan always wants to try to go against that. And the other one is Daniel. And of course the last, another one is Jonah. You know, Genesis is the very first prediction of a savior. [00:10:09] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:10:09] Speaker B: And of course, if Satan can chip away at that, he can chip away. That's why it's always a hot button, right? [00:10:16] Speaker A: No, absolutely. [00:10:18] Speaker B: Evolution. Go ahead. [00:10:22] Speaker A: No, no, brother, go ahead, finish your thought. [00:10:24] Speaker B: So a lot, a lot of Christians get caught up in that. Like, oh, I don't have the answer to, you know, Noah's Ark, or I don't have the answer to dinosaurs. Hey, man, it doesn't matter if you guess it right. Doesn't matter if you read it and decipher it or you don't know it. It's a binary option. At the end, it's heaven or hell. And the only thing you are going to get to know is Jesus Christ. [00:10:43] Speaker A: No, man, I like to think about it like this. And in my simple army, man kind of thinking is this is that you don't have to have a PhD in understanding the salvation and how Jesus was full divinity, full humanity, how all these intricate things. I don't need to have a PhD level knowledge. Right. To understand all those things and how he's transformed things in my life. What, what you do need to have though, is full obedience. You have to have a heart that's surrendered and willing to follow. And I think that's, that's where Satan always gets and trips up people, is like, well, if you can't explain why the sky is blue and how this and that and all these kind of things, these small rock things that trip people up. Here's the big thing. He died on the cross for us. And if you believe in him, right, he transforms your life and he'll add understanding to you as you need. Those things we don't all need to be able to debate and be a CS Lewis, he called him, and he gave those kind of people those talents. But he's calling us in specific places, and he will give you, if you ask and if you're following him, he will give you what you need. You don't need to be afraid. You just need to be, hey, I was blind and now I can see. I don't know what to tell you, man. Like, he loves you. And look at my life as an example. It can be that plain and that simple, but that powerful. [00:12:01] Speaker B: No, that's it. Right. And if it really gets down to it, Jesus spoke. Spoke about Adam and Eve, right? And he spoke regularly or he spoke regularly about them. He also spoke about John. Right. So it all circles back to Jesus, because ultimately, that's it. You know, I've been in a few planes and get ready to jump out. Inevitably, some folks are. Can be a little nervous, right. And they send you to all the training and this, that, and the other. I'm gonna give you a heads up. Make sure your static line's hooked up. That's super important. Make sure it ain't wrapped around you. Right? That's. That's actually the number one thing. Right. Let's solve that problem first. It's hooked up. All right, Good. When you hit that ground, go as limp as possible. Right? Like just kind of roll with it, you know, do that roll. Don't go completely roll. And that's. That's the big one, right? Those are the big items. Those are the big items. Keep staring it back to that. Keep steering it back to Jesus Christ. This guy did. The Pharisees was grilling. [00:12:59] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:13:00] Speaker B: They're like, hey, we've never seen this. Well, yeah, yeah, it's a creation problem. This guy was born blind. [00:13:06] Speaker A: Yeah, that. [00:13:08] Speaker B: That's not. That's not something we correct, you know, in any level of medicine. [00:13:13] Speaker A: No, no, you're. You're absolutely right. But, you know, as men, I think the big thing is why you see these debates in our lives, Jason, to be quite honest, is we have this tendency. We want. Men especially, we want to control logic. We don't want to surrender. Right. Like you saw that with the Pharisees. We're trained to try to solve Problems. But faith is trusting God without needing all the blueprints and all the fine print. You know, look at the Pharisees. Educated, proud, knew the written word of God, but they were spiritually blind, just like the man that they were questioned. Then you look at the blind man, conversely, untrained, humble, you know, accepted his lot in life, I'm sure. Don't really get his age, but I'm guessing he's probably in his young man, twenties or so. But he had a heart that was awakened to the Creator. And he's like, look, I can't get into some kind of theological debate with you. I'm going to lose that, right? I don't. I don't have that. But what I have, I can see. And I know that man who changed my eyes. That is something special. That's something unique. [00:14:12] Speaker B: That's interesting. Yeah. Because later in the chapter, you know, Jesus runs into him, you know, and he says, you know, and Jesus heard. They cast him out. And when he had found him, he said unto him, do you believe on the Son of God? And the man answered and says, who is he, Lord, that I can believe on him? He says, you both seen him, and it's me that's talking to him. That's in verse 37. And he says, you know, I believe. And he worshiped him. And Jesus goes on to talk to him, and it says, some of the Pharisees which were with him, they heard these words. They said unto him, are we blind also? And Jesus looks them dead in the eye. [00:14:46] Speaker A: And. [00:14:46] Speaker B: Which, no pun intended, but he says to him, you know what? If you were blind, you probably wouldn't have any sin right now, but because you can see, your sin is going to stay with you. He says, you know, that's it. You're missing. You're right. That guy was spiritually. His eyes were open, theirs were not. And, you know, that's what that man brought to the table. Do you think he got the rest of the Gospels? Nope. No. He walked around proclaiming one thing, and that was what was very personal to him. That's what's very personal to us, I think, as Christians. That's that prayer journal, right? Hey, man, you. You don't want to buy there's this weighted thing on sin at the end of your life. Just search your soul for a little bit or search that heart you've got. You'll know there is. Yes, but I've been praying for these things. I pray for safe travel for my family. That happens, right? Every night we pray. Hey, as we go our separate ways Bring us safely together Tonight we're going to eat supper. We're going to celebrate my daughter's boyfriend's birthday, which it'll be way past by the time this comes out. But we're going to eat dinner tonight, right? Like, you and I pray for you every day, and we're talking. Those are things. Yeah, it's personal. Your testimony is personal. [00:15:58] Speaker A: Now, Jason and I, I think I love this story. There's. There's so much. We probably could talk for two hours on this. But one of the things that pops out to me, and you brought it up, like, where Jesus, this man, is encountered, right? He gets to tell, like, a little bit more of story in the Bible is that it was obedience before understanding. Let's think about, you know, I want to. I want to kind of pull this out for just a second. Think about this, you know, hey, I need you to take this mud I made out of spit, put it on your eyes and go to this pool. Instantly in our minds right now, as you, even as you listen, you're like, wait a minute. What, What. What is this? Not the blind guy. He was like, look, I got nothing to lose, right? Whatever was in his mind, he's like, I'm gonna do it, right? Trusting in Jesus and not debating in your heart, right? That is such an important thing with our faith, right? To be obedient, right? Understanding will come. And I do believe this guy's faith was transformed. Like, he had probably went on to understand and live a life that was full of fire and vigor. But the first step, Jesus knew all that was going to come, right? And sometimes we get into these things, like, oh, Lord, what's going to come next? When is the breakthrough going to happen? When is this going to happen? I need you to take the first step. Just listen to what I'm telling you, right? And be obeyed. Obedient in those small things, right? That faith, when you show, when you obey God before you understand him, is a powerful thing that pushes away the adversary, schemes against you and gets you on the right path, man. And we see this in this story, man. And it's an important thing to kind. [00:17:25] Speaker B: Of dwell on, think about it. He had faith like a child. People out there listening. You got kids, when they're kids, they. They do, right? Until they hit teenage years now. But I got two beautiful children. I love. Love them very much. But I love that when you said, man, he. He had faith. He did it. He obeyed. Look, let's. Let's be candid. Folks, he was a blind guy who sat and begged. And I'm gonna promise you there was some mean folks that probably he's encountered in his life that probably took advantage of his inability to see it, may have throw mud at him, may have thrown some things at him, tried to play a joke on him, right? Because there's just cruel people in this world. And here comes. Here he comes, this guy sits in mud and clay and makes him again. And you're right, he did. The Pharisees, even all the learned folks, said, since the world began, no one's ever heard of anybody opening eyes of someone who was born blind. That's not a correction miracle. That's a creation miracle. [00:18:27] Speaker A: Yes, sir. Yes. [00:18:28] Speaker B: And that's. That's phenomenal. I love how that you said that, like, blind faith, you know, it's tough. Jesus tells us to forgive people, man. Tell me that ain't tough, right? [00:18:39] Speaker A: It can be. It can be hard. That can be probably one of the hardest things you'll face in your life, to be quite honest with you. And it can also be one of the greatest stumbling blocks to you coming to Jesus. The pain, the hurt, as you replay that. And Satan, more importantly, brings that to your mind, like, yeah, you know, you know, what happened, that's Jesus fault, right? And he'll even go that far, right? And you have to be really careful in this. In this blind man and his parents, right? In that culture, all. A lot of us out here are parents. Can you imagine that? The hurt and pain that you're in, the stigma, especially in that culture, in that time, to have a child with a. With a disability, right? And then everyone's looking at you like, you guys, you did something. You're terrible people. And the religious leaders of the day, instead of bringing comfort, instead of bringing light, they bring darkness. Well, what's going on? Were you lying this whole time? Right? It's some amazing. And I'll go ahead and segue right into this part, and then I'll turn it back over to you, is we can allow Satan to stymie all of what God has done in our lives just by being silent. And I want you to think about this for a second. If that man. And a part of me says I couldn't blame him if he would have got his eyes, got his sight, and he just ran off. And he, you know, he never thanked Jesus. He just. We never got that part of the story. I'm like, okay, I can kind of understand that. But what we see is really the story. And you talk about this. A lot of times, the resurrection, it wasn't the darkness that he was in, it was the light that he started walking in that he could see. And that was his testimony. He. He. And he got grilled. And this is the thing. A lot of men, you feel silence. A lot of women out there listening to us, you feel silence because you can't answer these deep theological things or you feel like you have this sin right or whatever is going on. But you know what God is asking you to do? Confess the sin, step into that ministry, build that business that he's asking you. Forgive someone who's hurt you. That's what he's asking. Make it make sense with what he's given and ask, and the rest will come. That is the testimony what he has done for you. Hey, I came from humble beginnings, whatever the case may be, and look what I can do now. That's your testimony. Not great theological things. And you never know, he may give you those great theological insights, but if you don't take that first step of just being able to, hey, you know what? Jesus loves you to a coworker, a friend, children, whoever it is, you'll never get to that height that he has for your life. [00:20:53] Speaker B: So you said something. Not only did the said, throughout that whole life, those other people had looked and said, y' all have done something wrong. That's absolutely reflected by what the disciples had to say. They didn't. They're not the first one to think that. That had to be a common thought, right? That was a common framework decision that they made. And it was so bad, and they didn't. No one focused on the glory. A blind man born blind of a blind man being able to see. And then a man who was born blind being able to see. The parents were so scared because they were going to be kicked out. So they knew in their whole life, it had been ingrained in them that if you get kicked out of the church, there's nobody. There's nobody to kill the animal, to cover you with the blood, to go. Your sins are covered, right, like you are. This great thing has happened to you and it's going to cost you your eternity. According to believer. I think right under the old covenant, this is it. And they're so terrified about it. Because you love your children. Can you imagine? Your child has this problem and it's finally over, and you're like, oh, man, I'm going to celebrate. I'd be celebrating. And then it's like, oh, but if you celebrate, you're going to get kicked out of the church. And by the way, you know what that means? You're not going to heaven. Right. All right. Abraham's both. And Jesus, it says Jesus knew that they had kicked him out. And he gets ready to talk to the guy, he gets ready to see this guy. And this guy has to feel alone. Like he was super alone while he was blind. But then all of a sudden he's like, well, at least I've got the temple. Like, you know, they'll cover my sins. It'll get better when I get to hell and they kick him out. You talk about being bitter. Yeah. No wonder he had that say. Yeah, you know, And Jesus comes in, he says, look, man, I'm that guy. The world is hurting and you're going to have ups and downs and this, that and the other. But God puts you there. Ambassador for the kingdom. [00:22:51] Speaker A: Yes. [00:22:51] Speaker B: And your gospel, the good news. That's it. Share the gospel. Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again. And I don't understand astrophysics either. Do I understand why all these bad things happen. Nope, can't figure it out. There was tornado not very far from our house. I can't. Yeah, you don't tell me why that happened. I don't know why it happened. Atmospheric. [00:23:10] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. I mean, again, I think the most powerful thing as we start drawing near to the. To the end of our time together here with our audiences. I was blind. Now I see is that is simple, but it's so powerful, you know, ladies and gentlemen out there, it is so power. Your story is enough, brothers and sisters. I want to make sure that we drive home this point and then we'll bring it home. I want to bring it home before I turn over to Jason for closing thoughts here. But you don't have to know Greek or Hebrew or how to do the three point sermon, how to build a devotional outlines or any of that stuff. You just need to tell what God did for you. Because when people see you, right, and we all have snapshots. Some people know you from childhood and they have that snapshot of you. Some people know you, hey, I worked three jobs ago with you. And they have that. But when they see you living out your faith, you are telling a story, you are pointing them, whether you realize it or not. And you should realize that after hearing this, you're pointing them towards Jesus, right? So, you know, we see this man in John 9 and 38 Again, this blind man, just to bring it all home. He says the. Then the man said, lord, I believe and he worshiped him. You know, Jason kind of highlighted this. Spiritual sight had fully come, and where did it happen? Personal encounter with Jesus. We talked about this in last week's episode. You find and build Jesus and have that relationship, and not what the world tells you, not what Satan tells you is. And that solitude and building that time with him, that's one of the most important things you can do for understanding your testimony and understanding how far he's brought you is developing that personal relationship. So men, especially ladies, listening to. It's not just a Sunday thing. You can't be a Sunday morning only Christian, or whatever day you go, right? It doesn't work like that. It works with every day, every aspect of my life. Like you said, like you heard Jason say, I do the same thing when I pray over my family, over my kids, when we depart, before I walk into my job so that I have the right mindset. And, you know, I'm. I'm. I'm reflecting him before I eat. Whatever it is, it's that I'm thinking about him. I'm trying to connect with him. That is what you see with this blind man. And the story that we brought to you, a heart that was in tune to his creator and forever changed people around him. Go ahead, Jason. [00:25:26] Speaker B: No, you know, I love. I love my Bible. I really do. And I don't want, you know, it is scripture, right? But when I. When I think back to when the church grew under oppression, right? When it first started, they didn't have. They just had letters between one another. And, you know, think about it. To the Jews, it was the completion of their law. So you kind of. You could see where intellectually they could tie this in. Paul was a big intellectual, but to the Gentiles, it was this radical idea that your sins could be forgiven and you could live beyond this life. And as that word progressed, it was word. It was very relational witnessing. Right. Don't get me wrong, I love my Bible. But in the same token, I think sometimes it can be intimidating. I hear people go, well, I don't know the Bible as well as you do, or, you know, I don't know the Bible well at all. Well, congratulations. We were all started there at some point, and there's people that know it way better than I do. You know, we've talked. You know, we're just. We're so good friends. You know, we'll talk about things and go, you know, I got to go back and reread that. But above all things, it's a personal witness that's what makes it real. I'm making it real because it was real in my life, right? Or is real in my life. It's a present tense. And if anybody gets into that debate of, well, what about this, what about that? Jesus spoke of idol, he spoke of Eve, he spoke of Jonah, he spoke of Daniel. Well, I'm going to circle it back to him and what he did in my life. I was blind. Now I see. I see a whole lot. I see the value of this person that I may have overlooked in the past because I was very selfish. I see this person hurting and I know the great position and I want to push them to or highlight him so they come. I love it, man. Yeah. I love this man. It was a great story. [00:27:12] Speaker A: No, man, that was. That was powerful. It was. It was good.
